A vocal Cardinal’s morning song
This female cardinal has been my morning visitor since July. She perches in the bushes, sometimes seen and sometimes unseen, but heard almost every morning.
Her soft chirp, chirp, chirp, or the softer cheer, cheer, cheer, can be heard as if it is set to an exact clock at a little before nine in the morning, every morning.
I’ve grown accustomed to this soft song, and I particularly notice it when I return from not being home for a few days, and I sit at my (outside) writing study. Scientist have found 16 different calls of the Northern Cardinal, from the metallic warning call to the softer chirps that this female sings in the morning.
