Between the bird keys
Before the dusk wind picked up, we paddled between the Bird Keys mangrove islands at Jim Nelville Preserve.

The end of the video above shows just how shallow and clear these waters run around between one of the mangrove islands and the seagrass beds.
It was a quiet, cooler late afternoon — with only one other kayaking couple, jumping mullet, the patient fishing shorebirds, and an osprey perched on a channel marker with his catch.
This narrow cut leads into one of the mangrove mazes:

Love the Go Pro. Looks like you had a nice, relaxing excursion. I’ve been wanting to go through the mangrove tunnels for awhile — looks like fun.
That does look great. I’m surprise I didn’t see or hear birds.
Thanks, Steve! This is a great little preserve to paddle. There was a beautiful tri-colored in the seagrass that caught a small fish and chowed down, but the GoPro battery had died by then! I have to work on making sure it’s fully charged before heading out.
Thanks, Jan! It was nice and quiet, and there are a few more of the mangrove tunnels we want to explore.
