The meandering trail and the fast singletrack

Fishing at Red Bug Slough…

I took my first bike ride this morning at Red Bug Slough Preserve. Biking along the trail leading to the slough from the trailhead, I saw this Osprey flying towards the water at an acute angle. I stopped the bike and through the branches saw the perfect descent, ending in a splash, and the Osprey rising with a fresh catch.

The Long Trail

A man stopped his red Ford pickup beside me as I was pumping air in the tires. I had my head down trying to get the bike setup quickly so I would had a good two or so hours on the long canal trail at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, before I pedaled back with the orange sun fading beyond the everglades. “Pardon. How far does that trail go?” he asked.

Virginia Key Mountain Bike Trails

I got my first chance to hit the trails at Virginia Key Park’s North Point, and it was a great 6.5-miles in the sandy dirt. I rode one of the singletracks, a half-mile trail I called Pine Switchback, three times. It was fast, hard-packed and had two sweet upsy-downs.
