Hike at Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area

We wanted to try somewhere new, a hike that we didn’t have to drive to far to get to. So we headed out to Hypolouxo Scrub Natural Area. It turned out to be a nice late-afternoon hike through the flatwoods.

Pine off the Eastern Pondhawk Hiking Trail

My kind of road.

The 1.5-mile Eastern Pondhawk trail loop is a good place to wander the flatwoods, and there are a few other trails that stem off the main loop. We saw a few cardinals, an Eastern Racer, and a Florida Scrub-jay that flickered off before I could get a photograph. I think I’ll have to take another visit to see if I can get a few good photos of one of the Scrub Jays at the Hypoluxo preserve. Only a short segment of the trails are shaded, so the best time to go would be early in the morning or later in the day.

Preserve view from top of observation tower.

Good trip, but we have to do some more adventures to add to this one!
