The above photos, except the Roseate, which was fishing the Myakka River shore, were taken from the Ranch House trail leading out through dry prairie and pines and the occasional marsh in Myakka State Park. This is a wonderful trail, especially early in the morning, and out past the first crosstrails.
The sandy soil under my boots and the cool morning wind to my back, I hiked out along this long trail. These white pelicans, a winter migrant to the Gulf coast, soared overhead.
