15,000 acres of the forest were burned over by the 1998 summer wildlife Firestorm, and restoration efforts were completed in 2010 to remove salvage timber. It looks like this area of the ridge was recently burned by prescribed fire.
Tiger Bay State Forest encompasses a hiking trail, as part of the Florida Forest Service’s Trailwalker hiking program, and an equestrian trail. In addition to the pine ridge, the state forest consists of large areas of swamp with embedded pine islands. We saw several deer tracks running alongside the park access road (Rima Ridge Road) two miles south of State Road 40.
