Swallow-tailed kite high above Myakka

This time I was able to capture a few shots–from a long ways below the high-soaring kite–before it flew off to the north, exemplifying its name as it glided for long distances without changing course. “When seen in flight, the Swallow-tailed Kite is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful birds,” reads my trusty Florida’s Birds guidebook.

On the way back along the Bee Island singletrack, this white-tailed was out in the scrub munching a leaf-ful. DSC_0246
